Most online products or services are found starting with Google. Did you know that smarter people were more likely to avoid clicking on ads?
There are two main areas of the search results page: the ever-changing organic area and the AdWords (pay-per-click) area. Google's AdWords program, which lets companies target ads to specific search terms, really only gets 25% of clicks per result page. Studies conducted by marketingsherpa.com using eye tracking software conclude that eyeballs go to the left portion of the screen first. The study also concluded that smarter people look more at the organic area of Google, not the AdWords area.
Generally speaking, educated people are used to controlling their destiny and personal choices. Optimizing your site to be positioned on the organic portion of the page is free, generates more traffic and reaches smarter, more educated people. More education usually means more income. People with masters degrees tend to click on ads only 10% of the time. If your goal is to reach smarter people, go organic.
